A Brief History

A conversation among a handful of co-ops and non-profits organizations in 2005 quickly led to the drafting of Domestic Fair Trade Principles and formation of a Domestic Fair Trade Working Group and Steering Committee. By the end 2007, the group had approved applications from 35 mission-driven organizations, and met for the first time as the Domestic Fair Trade Association. Since then, we have been building a strong foundation for the organization by developing:

-bylaws

-criteria for evaluating marketplace claims

-processes for for membership applications

-elections and policy positions
