Policy Statements
The Domestic Fair Trade Association is a unique coalition formed in 2007 of over thirty farms, cooperatives, workers associations, non-profit organizations, and fair trade businesses. DFTA works to promote and protect the integrity of Domestic Fair Trade Principles through education, marketing, advocacy and endorsement. DFTA bases its work on Principles reached by broad consensus to promote and protect family-scale farming, protect the rights of labor, support local economies and communities, and promote democratic and participatory control and ownership of the food system.
When appropriate, DFTA will take policy positions that support this solidarity-based vision for the U.S. food system. Such policy positions will be used as an educational tool through posting on the DFTA website and distribution through press releases and our members networks. These positions will also be used by the DFTA to evaluate specific bills as they come under consideration in Congress, in order to inform possible DFTA endorsement of that legislation.
